Earn a Master's Degree

The School Library Information Specialist is an emphasis area within the Instruction and Curriculum Leadership (ICL) concentration. Completion of this program leads to the Tennessee Dept. of Education Library Information Specialist pre-K-12 endorsement (473). 


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (in any area) required for admission.
  • 30 credit hours (including 9 core courses) and practicum required to earn master's degree.
  • 6 courses and practicum required for add-on SLIS endorsement or as part of initial teaching licensure.

Earn a Graduate Certificate

The School Library Information Specialist is an emphasis area within the Instruction and Curriculum Leadership (ICL) concentration. Completion of this program leads to the Tennessee Dept. of Education Library Information Specialist pre-K-12 endorsement (473). 


Requirements:

  • Master's degree (in any area) required for admission.
  • Applicants must also hold a current teaching license or be in the process of obtaining teacher licensure to be eligible. If a student is not certified as a teacher, an additional two courses in education are required, as well as other requirements of the Teacher Education Program (TEP).
  • Only 6 courses and practicum required for school library certification.

The program is designed for those people who seek to become school library information/media specialists. The program may or may not be acceptable for public or other library positions. Please contact us if you have any questions!
